Description
Summary:These are the first four volumes of a five-volume facsimile of Dom Palémon Bastin’s Reliquiae Chartarum Capituli Generalis of the Carthusian Order, Part IV, covering the years 1564 to 1620, from the archives of La Grande Chartreuse (cf. JTS, ns 59 [2008], p. 854). James Hogg explains that ‘limited progress’ had been made in producing a transcript of this manuscript, and therefore a facsimile had to be presented instead. It is interesting to see the actual handwriting of Dom Bastin, though examples of this have already appeared in the Analecta Cartusiana. Much interesting material is presented in this current collection of cartae, including the brief, though practically redundant, references to the defunct charterhouses of England.
