Summary: | Editor of the monumental Storia della teologia, vol. 2: Età medievale (Casale Monferrato: Piemme, 2003), G. d’Onofrio has chosen to open this newly established series with an anthology of his reworked articles from the past twenty years, devoted mostly to the epistemological foundations of the late antique, early medieval, and Renaissance periods. Despite the nature of such collections, the volume aspires to a certain thematic coherence which would have been better served by an introductory note or some concluding remarks, both conspicuously lacking. The vera philosophia of the title offers the leading thread: the book seeks to trace the origins of Christian theology, the true wisdom, in the ‘overturning’ of the epistemological model of classical philosophy, as exemplified by Cicero. |
