Summary: | Professor Viladesau certainly undertook a massive task in this, the second of his studies on theology and the arts through history. Here he deals with the Renaissance, Reformation, and Counter-Reformation, and the styles usually labelled Renaissance and Mannerist; inevitably, given the sheer scope of the work, the results are uneven. His deep knowledge of the theology of the period makes for valuable discussions of such movements as the Devotio Moderna and such individuals as Gabriel Biel and Girolamo Savonarola. |
