Summary: | In July 2004 the International Medieval Sermon Studies Society met at Lyon for a conference on preaching and liturgy, which has resulted in this collection of papers edited by Bériou and Morenzoni, appropriately forming the fifth volume in the Brepols series on medieval cultural history. There are sixteen papers in all, five in English, one in Italian, and the remainder in French. Bériou provides an introduction which sets the scene, outlining the kinds of sources used, and the ways in which the essays show how preaching relates to liturgy in such far distant contexts as Augustine in fifth-century North Africa (Gert Partoens) and Renaissance Florence (Peter Howard). |
