Description
Summary:Any serious and worthwhile discussion of anti-Judaism in early Christian writers requires a great deal of care since there are many hazards in trying to interpret what was really at stake in utterances that can often seem abhorrent to the modern, post-Holocaust, reader. Various passages to be found in Ephrem's extensive writings have won him a bad reputation in several modern studies, so it is welcome to have a full-length monograph devoted to this matter., Between an introductory chapter, providing the setting for the study, and a short final one, there are three substantial chapters, ‘Defending Nicaea against Jews and Judaizers’, ‘Ephrem's Use of Scriptural History’, and ‘Ephrem, Athanasius and the “Arian” Threat’.
