Professor Gilles Quispel from Utrecht had presented a paper in English, and in the subsequent discussion had engaged in debate, in French, with Cardinal Jean Daniélou from Paris and, in English, with the American scholar R. M. Grant, switching from one language to the other without the slightest hesitation.
