Description
Summary:Bruce Metzger'sThe Text of the New Testament (Oxford University Press) was first published in 1964 and was revised three times. After the publication of its fourth edition in 2005, edited by Metzger and Bart D. Ehrman, David Parker allowed himself the luxury of a 17-page review of it in this journal (JTS, ns 57 [2006], pp. 551–67). In many ways he was disappointed that this once prestigious textbook had not kept abreast of developments in the discipline of textual criticism and he drew attention to its shortcomings. Soon afterwards he decided that the proper response would be to address the issues not covered adequately by Metzger (and Ehrman) head-on and to write his own Introduction. This is it—and welcome it is too.
