Description
Summary:Character Ethics and the Old Testament is a compilation of papers delivered over several years to the ‘Character Ethics and Biblical Interpretation’ group at the annual meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature. This is the second volume to appear; the first was Character and Scripture: Moral Formation, Community, and Biblical Interpretation (Eerdmans, 2002), and this new volume accompanies a new New Testament volume, Character Ethics and the New Testament: Moral Dimensions of Scripture (WJK Press, 2007)., Few would disagree that the field of Old Testament ethics has been dominated by principles and normative precepts drawn from multiple biblical sources. Character ethics, however, is more concerned with other, less prescriptive ways in which the Bible influences ‘faithful living’.
