Description
Summary:On the face of it, Maximos is one of the most philosophically inclined of the Greek Fathers. Despite this, however, there is little that engages directly with his philosophical ideas: Törönen's recent book (see JTS, ns 59 [2008], pp. 384–6), perhaps, and a few articles. This book addresses important philosophical ideas in Maximos’ thought, and reveals something of the problems with such an endeavour, but also, more importantly, how much light can be shed on Maximos’ theology by such an approach. Pascal Mueller-Jourdan has chosen to look at the concepts of space and time in Maximos, and especially their role in the typology developed by the Confessor in his reflections on the Divine Liturgy, his Mystagogia. The results of Mueller-Jourdan's research can be summed up under two headings.
