Description
Summary:This collection of essays emerges from an international conference hosted at Drew University in 2004. It consists of eighteen essays together with introductory material and a compendium of resources. The essays are grouped into five areas dealing with late antiquity, the Patristic age, the Middle Ages, the Reformation, and the modern era. Thus the claim made in the title to offer both a history and some sense of the development of the Christian understanding of deification or theosis is evident in the structure of the book. However, this is a collection of essays and therefore one should not expect to find a comprehensive ongoing analysis of the history or development of deification.
