Description
Summary:This volume departs from convention in presenting the translations in front of the twofold introduction, one part contributed by Bernard McGinn (‘Isaac of Stella in context’) and the other by the editor of the volume, Dániel Deme (‘Introduction to the theology of Isaac of Stella’). The translation relies in part on existing translations in the Cistercian Fathers series and in The Way (Letter on the Mass). The intention, very successful for the most part, has been to make the translation convey the nuances of Isaac's thought while ensuring that it is accessible to the general reader. Bernard McGinn provides a sensitive and approachable account of the historical context in which Isaac thought and wrote, including a taste of the ecclesiastical politics of the day.
