Summary: | This volume, which covers the year and a half Bonhoeffer spent in London in pastorates in Sydenham and the East End of London, is the latest of the translations of the German Gesamtausgabe. It is meticulously referenced with helpful introductions by both Keith Clements and the German editors. The emphasis is on completeness, so some of it is trivia, and there is a good deal which is only of interest to the Bonhoeffer expert (how that idea would have made him shudder!), but there is fascinating material which anticipates both the Ethics and the prison correspondence, and there is a series of sermons on 1 Corinthians 13 which deserve publication as a small pamphlet and which would be of interest to a much wider readership. |
