| Summary: | Although it has been some sixty years since the discovery of the Coptic Gospel of Thomas in the desert outside of Nag Hammadi (Egypt), April DeConick's volume demonstrates that the dust surrounding this mysterious sayings collection is far from settled. An indefatigable commentator on Thomas, DeConick here combines a Religionsgeschichteschule approach with a reformulated form criticism. Like many Thomas scholars, the author sees the Coptic text as the culminating, written residue of a protracted, largely oral process of traditioning. |
