Description
Summary:Having published a major commentary of nearly 1,500 pages on 1 Corinthians in 2000, Anthony Thiselton has now provided a much shorter work. This is not, as Thiselton is keen to stress (pp. xiii–xiv), a summary or abbreviation of his earlier work, though it does, of course, depend and build on the research presented in it. This volume is characterized by a concise exegesis of the text, largely without the extensive engagement with the secondary literature that fills the earlier volume, and by a concern to offer suggestions throughout as to the contemporary pastoral and theological relevance of the material., A 26-page introduction begins by sketching some features of the ancient city of Corinth, seen in turn as having shaped the ethos of those who were members of the Corinthian church.
