Summary: | The title may not do full justice to the creativity and novelty of many of the arguments in this useful and rewarding collection of twenty essays. These essays are no merely defensive reaction against newer approaches, but provide a careful sifting of arguments and evidence that often reveals a failure of some more novel approaches to address issues that might have invited second thoughts. In this respect it is critical scholarship at its best., The first essay on theological diversity and historical occasionalism within the biblical canon is a hitherto unpublished essay. Gundry makes the fairly obvious point that diversity is to be expected where writings within the canon address very different situations. He resists over-easy harmonizing and over-systematizing. |
