MacDonald's overall approach is deeply indebted to Barth. Drawing on the early (Barth-influenced) von Rad, MacDonald's initial concern is how to construe God as creator in Genesis 1, given that Israel came to understand God as creator subsequent to coming to know God through the historical experience of the Exodus. | ||
