Description
Summary:Francis Martin's new book is deeply rooted in his spiritual and academic experience. As a former Cistercian monk, Martin celebrated for many years solemn monastic liturgy permeated with scriptural and patristic readings. After that period of contemplative life, he embarked on a more active academic career, and again experienced the richness of Scripture—this time from the perspective of modern biblical studies. Through both experiences, Martin has realized the urgent ‘task of integrating the ancient way of understanding the Bible with the historical methods we use today in our study of the Bible’ (p. ix).
