Summary: | True to the title, Kahana provides a very complete verse-by-verse comparison of one of the two Greek texts of Esther, the ó-text (S), with the Masoretic text (M) accompanied by a descriptive commentary of each verse. In a visually attractive display, each verse is divided into phrases and presented in four columns: the author's English translation of the ó-text, the Greek of the ó-text, the Masoretic text, and the author's English translation of the Hebrew. Her commentary on each verse is primarily descriptive and attempts to evaluate the comparison of the phrases in terms of her defined categories of characteristic/uncharacteristic equivalents, equations, suitable meaning, and unique equations. |
