Description
Summary:The latest set of anathemas to be added to the Synodikon of Orthodoxy, read in principle in the Orthodox Church on the First Sunday of Lent, is called the ‘Chapters against Barlaam and Akindynos’; Akindynos is thus the last singled out for this dubious honour. It is a tribute to his important role in the opposition to Palamism during the fourteenth-century Hesychast Controversy. Until quite recently, however, very little was available of anything he had written. Just over ten years ago, in 1995, Juan Nadal Cañellas published the editio princeps of two works by Gregory Akindynos directed against the teaching of his former friend St Gregory Palamas.
