Summary: | These two volumes from Corpus Christianorum Continuatio Medievalis contain the known works in prose and verse of the English thirteenth-century canon Alexander, prior of the Augustinian house of Ashby in Northamptonshire. Volume 1 contains a detailed introduction to the texts and includes what information can be gleaned about Alexander himself. He lived in the second half of the twelfth and the first half of the thirteenth centuries; he was an Augustinian canon and became prior of the house at Ashby about 1185, where he wrote mainly to teach his own monks and offer help to others involved in pastoral work. |
