Summary: | In this journal (ns 57 [2006], pp. 335–7) I reviewed the previous volume of the group which is completed by the present book. In the present review, I shall concentrate on two libelli that are here appended to Books XI–XII of the Defence of the Three Chapters, both of them introduced, translated, and (far too) lightly annotated by Aimé Solignac. One of these is the Contra Mocianum, written by Facundus in his last years to justify Justinian's refusal of communion to certain bishops after the banishment of Reparatus from Carthage in 552; it is not easy to follow, and Solignac speaks of his sense of the author's ‘lassitude et la hâte d’en finir’ (feelings shared by the reader). |
