Summary: | Caveat lector. As its subtitle makes clear, the subject of this book is the Greek manuscript P.Oxy. 840, not the Coptic manuscript P.Berol. 22220, to which the same title was given by Charles W. Hedrick and Paul A. Mirecki when they published their edition of the latter in 1999., Kruger's study, the slightly revised version of an Edinburgh Ph.D. thesis supervised by Larry Hurtado, begins with a history of the interpretation of P.Oxy. 840, a small fragment of parchment that was discovered in 1905 and published in 1908. Its author notes that although several significant articles have been written on it, no full-length study of the text has previously been published. He identifies five areas of study that merit further attention and devotes one chapter to each. |
