Description
Summary:The Charterhouse of Via Coeli was the last of the ‘historic’ houses of the Carthusian Order to be founded in Spain, and was suppressed after just forty-two years of existence (1639–81). Its troubled history, particularly the circumstances of its foundation and the relocation of its inmates, is related in this brief, but thoroughly researched account. The entire second half of the volume is devoted to transcriptions of source material and accounts of the charterhouse's history (pp. 99–190), which constitute a useful addition to our knowledge of the Spanish charterhouses.
