Description
Summary:James Parkes is virtually unknown today but he was one of the most significant Christian figures of the twentieth century. First, his pioneering scholarly work on anti-Semitism, including its Christian roots, laid the foundation for all subsequent work in this field. The huge collection of books he built up on the subject is now housed at the Parkes Library, Southampton University, which incarnates Parkes's vision with ongoing research, visiting scholars, and publications. Secondly, Parkes actively campaigned in the late 1920s and 1930s on behalf of Jews in Europe, working to get many out, badgering government departments, and trying to alert the population to the terrible events that were beginning to happen there.
