Summary: | In this enlightening and thought-provoking study, Roger Ruston explores aspects of the relationship between the notion of universal human rights and the theological doctrine that human beings are both created in the image and likeness of God and have been given ‘dominion’ by God over the rest of creation. While the investigation takes up the views of a wide range of thinkers in the history of Western thought, and is complicated by the fact that key ideas have been and still are understood in very different ways, it focuses on the works of three authors, the first two of whom are perhaps not as widely known in the English-speaking world as they deserve to be. |
