Description
Summary:This blockbuster of an edition of what scholarly consensus takes to be the two earliest Armenian anaphoras in the Basil tradition attests to the vitality of Armenian studies. Gabriele Winkler is probably one of the foremost oriental liturgical scholars alive today. In 1981, she published a ground-breaking study of the Armenian baptism rite, which demonstrated that, so far from being a junk-store of other traditions’ cast-offs, the Armenian rite contained and cherished roots in the Syrian tradition—no real surprise, given their geographical proximity. Since then she has written a number of monographs, including studies on the Armenian credal tradition (2000) and the Sanctus (2002).
