Description
Summary:It is good to have a contribution to Cyrilline studies from a practising pastor. Dr Schurig brings insight derived from his ministry to this study of one of Cyril's earliest treatises, perhaps even pre-dating his episcopate, De Adoratione et Cultu in Spiritu et Veritate. I report with brief comments the contents: two chapters sketch Cyril's biography prior to his elevation and deal with the structure and method of a treatise presented as a dialogue between Cyril and Palladius. The third places Cyril's understanding of Christ's death in the context of his account of the biblical narrative of salvation. Chapter 4 looks at the christological terminology and at the way he speaks of Christ's cross as adumbrated in the Pentateuch and revealed in the New Testament.
