Description
Summary:These two companion volumes (hereinafter Reception and Trajectories) are offered for reading either separately or together. A joint title, The New Testament and the Apostolic Fathers, has survived on the front cover of the paper jacket, and in the blurb on its back; but it nowhere appears on or within the hard covers, and has apparently been discarded. The whole collection was conceived to celebrate the centenary of The New Testament in the Apostolic Fathers, published in 1905 by ‘A Committee of the Oxford Society of Historical Theology’. The attempt is now made to bring up to date, expand, and correct what was then written; the abiding quality and usefulness of that work is repeatedly emphasized. The first volume (Reception) in fact repeats the procedure of its predecessor.
