Summary: | For any one interested in the Didache, this book is a compelling read, though not easy. Written in Italian, it has been published in English. That is very welcome, since it will bring to the attention of anglophone scholars the quantity and quality of research and writing in this field which is going on beyond the Alps. It has the disadvantage that it sometimes needs linguistic imagination to understand it. At various points one finds ‘Alliance’ for ‘Covenant’, ‘depending from’ for ‘depending on’, ‘literal’ for ‘literary’, ‘Holy Rest’ (p. 17) for ‘Holy Remnant’, ‘unchartered’ (p. 81, n. 95) for ‘uncharted’, ‘menacing attitude’ towards Judaism (p. 184) apparently for ‘threat of drift’. Delightfully the word (neologism?) ‘panqumranism’ is qualified on p. |
