Summary: | The trends in recent literary studies of the Psalter are both intriguing and disconcerting. Intriguing, because one has a sense that the nineteenth-century debates about the component parts of the Pentateuch and their respective dates and interrelationships are being aired again, but now with the books of David rather than the books of Moses in view. Disconcerting, because as the number of different proposals about the shape of the Psalter proliferates, it is quite clear that not every commentator can be on the right track, and psalmic studies will soon suffer the same fragmentation as happened with the documentary hypothesis. |
