Description
Summary:This is an important collection of papers. Hugh of St-Cher stands at a significant moment in the history of medieval exegesis. The Glossa ordinaria was to all intents and purposes complete, and yet commentary was still a lively and developing art, and the more so in the era of the friars with their need for preaching materials, and their special ways of using Scripture. Beryl Smalley and others signalled the notable contribution of Hugh to the developments of the next generation, and here is a volume of substantial pieces of research taking several questions forward., Jacques Verger writes on Hugh at the University of Paris and Pierre-Marie Gy on his life as a Dominican.
