Description
Summary:This fascinating volume in the series Sources Chrétiennes provides an edition of a ninth-century horologion now in the library of the Monastery of St Catherine at Sinai (codex Sinaiticus graecus 864) and almost certainly produced at Sinai for use there (not necessarily at the principal monastery, but maybe one of the surrounding hermitages). The edition has been meticulously made by a Basilian nun, Sister Maxime Ajjoub. Briefly to report her findings: the manuscript in its original form (part is missing and, Sister Maxime argues, in rebinding the order has been disturbed) contained a lengthy midnight office, followed by the hours up to none, which was followed by a set of twelve psalms, accompanied by two troparia.
