Description
Summary:With the solitary exception of the last of the seven contributions to this stimulating volume all the pieces are concerned with exploring the multiple interrelations between Hellenism and Christianity during the first five centuries ad. The whole book is furnished with a very useful introduction by the editor Éric Rebillard, in the course of which he provides a useful conspectus of the central themes of the collection. In some ways, as the editor makes plain, it is an essay in what he terms deconstruction. The traditional idea that the advance of Christianity was accompanied by and in the wake of the collapse of pagan worship is challenged.
