Summary:The commentary of Abraham ibn Ezra (1089–1164) on the Book of Job belongs to his ‘Italian period’ (1140–3) and is one of the most significant medieval Jewish commentaries in that it demonstrates a thorough integration of science and religion into the Jewish thinking of the Iberian Peninsula. Besides showing a deep understanding of the biblical text through the use of etymological and grammatical explanations, his commentary is characterized by an encyclopedic approach, introducing all branches of human knowledge, such as astronomy, astrology, mathematics, philosophy, into his exegesis of the text., Mariano Gómez Aranda's edition of the Job commentary has a threefold structure. In the introduction, he gives a detailed analysis of the history of interpretation on Job, i.e.
