Description
Summary:As a well-known Old Testament scholar now in his eighties, De Vries is surely as deserving of a Festschrift as anyone. And in his honour an extensive group of scholars, both well known and unfamiliar outside the honorand's circle, have joined forces to produce an attractively eclectic mix of articles, not all of which by any means can be summarized here., In a brief appreciation, included in both volumes, Harold Ellens contrasts De Vries's steadfast adherence to traditional historical-critical methods as the best way for the church to approach and appropriate the Bible with what is often referred to as the canonical method associated in particular with Brevard S. Childs.
