Summary: | Méndez-Moratalla observes that most studies of conversion in Luke–Acts have concentrated on Acts, and in particular on Paul, to the neglect of the gospel material, and he sets out to remedy the defect by establishing ‘a consistent, although not exhaustive, account of conversion in the Third Gospel … that will show a coherent theological pattern of conversion particular to Luke’ (p. 2). Previous studies have been ‘at best, very limited both in the number of texts and in the extent of their analysis’, in particular lacking any holistic analysis of related issues (p. 14). Redaction- and narrative-critical methods are employed to reveal a ‘paradigm of conversion’ in the texts studied. Particular attention is given to the transformation of social values and the ethical demands involved. |
