Description
Summary:This monograph is a study of what Filip Noel refers to as the second of two remarkable redactional interventions in Luke. The first is the ‘great omission’ of Mark 6:45–8:26 at Luke 9:17–18, which was the subject of his previous book, De compositie van het Lucasevangelie in zijn relatie tot Marcus: Het probleem van de ‘grote weglating’ (Brussels, 1994). There he concluded that the omission has nothing to do with the absence of material from Luke's source, but is to be explained as one of the most daring aspects of the composition of the third Gospel. The second is the ‘great interpolation’ of Luke 9:51–18:14, part of the Lukan travel narrative, which Noel delineates as Luke 9:51–19:28. The same redaction-critical interests found in his earlier work are also present here.
