Summary: | The present volume completes Professor Antony Campbell's study of the books of Samuel in the series The Forms of the Old Testament Literature. Although form-critical in approach, according to the nature of the series, Campbell reaches beyond traditional form criticism, asserting that it has a future only ‘if its past is allowed a decent burial’. His methodology is clearly set out in a preface and an introduction, which is shorter than the one written for 1 Samuel. In his approach he emphasizes the value of the final biblical text and argues against its implausible fragmentation. Attention is therefore focused on larger units of text as currently found in the Bible. |
