Summary: | Much is packed into this introduction to the study of Judaism in the Persian period, but the emphasis lies on Judah as a colonial society, and the contribution of sociology to historical work. The relevant Old Testament literature is briefly treated (1–2 Chronicles in particular might have been allowed more space), and topography remains in the background. Many elements of a handbook, including helpful classified bibliographies and explanations of sociological approaches, come together here, enlivened by the author's enthusiasm. |
