Summary: | Austin Farrer was born in 1904 and his centenary was marked not only by conferences on both sides of the Atlantic but also by the publication of a set of essays on every side of his work and his many gifts. There are seven essays and eight essayists. All but one are American professors, the other contributor being Ann Loades, formerly professor at the University of Durham. All are enthusiasts for Farrer as well as expositors of his writing, though I think that none knew him—after all, he died almost two generations ago, in 1968. |
