Description
Summary:When the modern revival of academic interest in Jonathan Edwards began in the middle of the last century, Perry Miller rehabilitated the great Puritan preacher by seeking to separate his intellectual gifts from his Calvinist piety. The decades of scholarship since have succeeded in reversing this, recognizing that the philosophical achievements that Miller (rightly) feted were not only matched by an acute theological perception, but were inseparable from it. However, even the best of the recent studies continue to view Edwards primarily as a writer of theological treatises, and not as a preacher.
