The approach is compelling, and all the more effective because the author's chronological modus operandi cleverly indicates both continuity of ideas and development of thought., Albeit a work of mature scholarship, the first chapter provides the best student introduction in English since Roland Bainton penned his Erasmus of Christendom (1970).
