Summary: | The date and place of study of its author gives this text a wider interest in the history of contemporary controversy and reforming writing. Henry of Bitterfeld (d. 1405) was a younger Dominican contemporary of John Wyclif, and a professor at the University of Prague. He wrote on themes not unrelated to those which were apparently stimulating so much interest in Wyclif at Prague: De formatione et reformatione Ordinis Praedicatorum; De institutione sacramenti eucharistiae; Determinatio de crebra communione; and a Determinatio contra simoniam, for example. He also dealt with topics not yet controversial in Wycliffite circles but which point the way to the future, such as indulgences and aural confession to a priest. |
