Description
Summary:This monograph is based on Cyril's New Testament commentaries and homilies, written both before and after the Nestorian controversy. It makes only occasional reference to his dogmatic works and letters. Having chosen as his subject the appropriation of divine life (an expression which he prefers to the shorthand and more restrictive terms ‘divinization’ or ‘deification’), Keating wishes to show the continuity with which Cyril treats the subject over his career, and the exegetical basis for his theology., In the first half of the book (chs. 1–3), Keating explains how Cyril develops his theology of the appropriation of divine life in terms of a narrative of salvation history, repeated and elaborated many times in the commentaries and homiles.
