Description
Summary:Like its immediate predecessors (cf. JTS, ns 51 [2000], pp. 720–1), the publication of the proceedings of the 2001 International Origen Congress is the work of a team of local editors, but follows the format now well established for the series since its adoption by Peeters and inclusion in BETL. The two volumes of Origeniana Octava contain a preface and 102 papers, 37 of them in English, 29 in Italian, 22 in French, 13 in German, and one in Spanish., The theme of the congress accounts for the fact that over 400 pages (32 contributions) are devoted to the historical, cultural, and religious contexts of Origen's life in Alexandria and to his relationship with his predecessors including Philo, the gnostic theologians, and Clement.
