Summary: | Septuagintal studies may have a significant bearing on the interpretation of the New Testament and on Judaism in the New Testament era. Some years ago this journal included in its pages illuminating research by George B. Caird on Septuagintal lexicography. William Loader takes pains here to offer very careful comparisons between Hebrew and Septuagintal traditions of texts that bear especially upon attitudes to issues in sexuality in Philo and in the New Testament. He stresses more than once that the aim of such comparisons ‘has not been to imagine the intentions of the translator(s), but to examine what they [the LXX texts] produced’ (p. 117).
