Summary: | For a century and more biblical scholars have sought to place the writings of the Hebrew prophets in their historical context, to seek to establish the text which best preserves their sayings, and to determine, by translation and commentary, what these sayings actually meant at the time. Another quest, seldom undertaken nowadays, is to set forth what later authorities made of the prophetic writings and what lessons they drew from them for their own times and circumstances. The present work is unusual in that the author undertakes, in limited scope, both these endeavours. Pentiuc is sponsored in his work by the Holy Cross Orthodox Press and supported by Metropolitan Methodios of Aneon and the Greek Orthodox diocese of Boston. |
