Description
Summary:This book is the fruit of study under Richard J. Clifford at Weston College, Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is born, firstly, of dissatisfaction with all attempts to solve the problem of the structure of the Book of Ezekiel and, in particular, of how the ‘Gog’ chapters, 38–9, fit in, and secondly, a conviction that the key lies in the structure of cosmogonic myths which show basic similarities in most of the cultures of the ancient Near East. The book's title is rather a tease, since disarmament can be both of others and of oneself; ‘disarming’ on God's part does not (I think) occur verbally till p. 181, by which time the reader will have come to appreciate the gently witty ambiguity of the title.
