Summary:The paper discusses the origin of the,,Lutherbibel" and Martin Luther's principles for his translation of the Bible. The second part of the article is devoted to the revision of the ,,Lutherbibel" from 1984, the form which is used today in German speaking Protestantism. The history of this revision and its stylistic characteristics are the major themes in this part. On the whole the article tries to show why Martin Luther's translation of the Bible has such an important position in current Protestantism.
