Le document et les circonstances de son élaboration prouvent que l'évaluation de cette cause très importante était fortement controversée même à l'intérieur des murs du St-Office et, qu'au milieu du 16e s., une vision intransigeante « contre-réformiste » de la foi, défendue particulièrement par la direction de l'Inquisition romaine, n'avait pas encore prévalu. Un examen plus étroit des motifs possibles des consultants montre que les votes peuvent s'expliquer non seulement par l'intérêt du pape Pie IV dans un acquittement de Morone, mais également par les positions théologiques de leurs auteurs. | ||

The document and the circumstances of its elaboration show that the valuation of this most important case was highly controversial even beyond the walls of the Sant' Ufficio, and that even in the middle of the 16th century an intransigent “counterreformatory” perspective of faith held especially by the head of the Roman Inquisition had not yet prevailed. A closer examination of the experts' possible motives makes clear that the votes can be explained not only by the interest of pope Pius IV in an acquittal of Morone, but also by the theological positions of the experts. | ||
